Eric Martin-Rivera, a first-grade teacher, was recently at odds with his school’s administration.

When his district’s curriculum called for teachers to read books featuring same-sex married couples to their students, Eric sought an accommodation.

But the school’s principal summoned Eric to her office, where he was told to forfeit his religious beliefs and teach the material—or face termination.

We sat down with Eric to hear his story in his own words.
